چکیده

In2O3/nano TiO2 and In2O3/TiO2 (P-25) photocatalysts with different In2O3 loadings have been prepared by solid state dispersion method. These catalysts are characterized by XRD, surface area, TEM, UV-vis DRS and XPS techniques. XRD analysis shows the fine dispersion of In2O3 on the surface of TiO2. The photocombinates of In2O3 prepared using the lab-made TiO2 are nano sized with an average size of 8–10 nm compared to the particle size of In2O3/TiO2 (P-25) combinates. The In2O3/nano TiO2 photocatalysts show higher surface area as compared to In2O3/TiO2 (P-25) photocatalysts due to nanosize of the particles. UV-vis DRS results show the visible light absorption of the catalysts in both the series. XPS analysis shows the interaction between In2O3 and TiO2, although the extent of interaction is low. Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution studies have been conducted over these catalysts from water and methanol:water mixtures under solar light irradiation. The 2 wt% In2O3 loaded nano TiO2 and P-25 catalysts show maximum hydrogen production activity from pure water splitting. A very good improvement in the activity is seen when the reaction is carried out in methanol:water mixtures. Maximum hydrogen production of 4080 μmoles/hour is observed on 5 wt% In2O3/nano TiO2 catalyst, which is almost double the activity observed on In2O3/ TiO2 (P-25) catalyst.

Advanced nanoporous TiO2 photocatalysts by hydrogen plasma for efficient solar-light photocatalytic application

We report an effect involving hydrogen (H2)-plasma-treated nanoporous TiO2(H-TiO2) photocatalysts that improve photocatalytic performance under solar-light illumination. H-TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by application of hydrogen plasma of assynthesized TiO2(a-TiO2) without annealing process. Compared with the a-TiO2, the H-TiO2 exhibited high anatase/brookite bicrystallinity and a porous st...

Development of Visible-light-active Photocatalyst for Hydrogen Production and Environmental Application

Semiconductor photocatalysis has been intensively studied in recent decades for a wide variety of application such as hydrogen production from water splitting and water and air treatment. The majority of photocatalysts are, however, wide band-gap semiconductors which are active only under UV irradiation. In order to effectively utilize visible solar radiation, this thesis investigates various t...

Unravelling the Efficient Photocatalytic Activity of Boron-induced Ti3+ Species in the Surface Layer of TiO2

Ti3+ species are highly unstable in air owing to their facile oxidation into Ti4+ species, and thus they cannot concentrate in the surface layer of TiO2 but are mainly present in its bulk. We report generation of abundant and stable Ti3+ species in the surface layer of TiO2 by boron doping for efficient utilization of solar irradiation. The resultant photocatalysts (denoted as B-TiO2-x) exhibit...

Cysteine-Cystine Photoregeneration for Oxygenic Photosynthesis of Acetic Acid from CO2 by a Tandem Inorganic-Biological Hybrid System.

Tandem "Z-scheme" approaches to solar-to-chemical production afford the ability to independently develop and optimize reductive photocatalysts for CO2 reduction to multicarbon compounds and oxidative photocatalysts for O2 evolution. To connect the two redox processes, molecular redox shuttles, reminiscent of biological electron transfer, offer an additional level of facile chemical tunability t...
